The Bike We Put Most People On for the Mountains
The 411 is the bike Royal Enfield built for exactly the roads north of here, and after a decade of renting it we still send more of them to Kedarnath and Chopta than anything else in the fleet.
The case for it is simple. 220 mm of ground clearance and long-travel suspension change what a broken road means. The washed-out repair sections past Guptkashi, the loose approach to Chopta, the churned gravel where a landslide was cleared last week — on a Classic these are obstacles you plan around. On a 411 they’re just road, and you stop thinking about them.
It’s slow. 24 bhp pushing 199 kg means you overtake a truck once and think carefully about the second one. In the hills that matters far less than you’d expect, because you’re rarely above 60 anyway.
And it’s simple. Air-cooled, carburettor-era mechanical logic, no complexity. There is a mechanic in every town on the Chardham route who has fixed a Himalayan 411 this month. That is a genuine advantage 200 km from anywhere.

What It’s Built For
Kedarnath. 220 km, three days, and the last 80 km is where the ground clearance earns its keep. This is our single most common 411 booking.
Chopta and Tungnath. 165 km with a rough final climb through the forest. The 411 handles it without drama.
Gangotri and Harsil. Long, high, cold, and beautiful. The 15-litre tank matters here — fuel gets thin past Uttarkashi.
The Chardham circuit. Ten to twelve days. The 411 will do it. The 450 will do it more comfortably.
Anywhere it rained yesterday. Landslide clearance leaves surfaces that a road bike simply shouldn’t be on.
411 or 450?
The honest version:

|---|---|---|

| Seat height | 800 mm | 825 mm (805 low seat available) |

Take the 411 if it’s your first Himalayan trip, if you’re on a budget, if you’re under 5’7”, or if the route is Kedarnath, Chopta or anything within about 250 km.
Take the 450 if you’re doing the full Chardham, going to Badrinath, Auli or Adi Kailash, riding two-up with luggage, or if long highway stretches at 90+ km/h are part of the plan. The sixth gear alone is worth the difference over a thousand kilometres.
