The Easiest Royal Enfield to Start On

If you’ve never ridden a Royal Enfield and you’re about to do it for the first time in a town full of pedestrians, monkeys and blind corners, this is the one to take.

The Hunter is the shortest, lightest and lowest bike Royal Enfield makes. At 181 kg it’s around fourteen kilos under a Classic 350, and more importantly the weight sits low and the wheelbase is short, so it turns like a normal motorcycle instead of something you have to plan ahead for. The 790 mm seat means most riders get both feet flat down, which is worth a great deal of confidence at a Laxman Jhula junction.

It runs the same 349cc air-cooled J-series single as the Classic — around 20 bhp, easy torque low down, no drama. What’s different is how little effort it takes to place the bike where you want it.

Where the Hunter Works

Around Rishikesh. Ram Jhula to Tapovan, the Haridwar road, the cafés on the Shivpuri stretch. It’s small enough to park and light enough to filter.

Neelkanth Mahadev. 32 km, thirty-plus hairpins through forest, sealed the whole way. This is the Hunter’s best ride in the area — it’s exactly the kind of tight paved climb the short wheelbase suits.

Kunjapuri for sunrise. 35 km, good road, up before dawn and back for breakfast.

Devprayag and back. 70 km each way on the main highway. Comfortable enough as a day ride; the seat starts asking questions after about four hours.

Where It Doesn’t

The 150 mm ground clearance is the limit. On a broken surface — the repaired stretches past Guptkashi, the last climb to Chopta, anything gravel — you’ll be picking lines carefully and the underside will still find things. Add a pillion and luggage and it gets worse.

For Kedarnath, Chopta, Badrinath, Auli or the Chardham circuit, take a Himalayan 411 instead. It’s ₹200 a day more and it is not a close call.

We’ll tell you this on the phone too. We’d rather rent you the right bike at a lower margin than have you fight the wrong one for three days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Hunter 350 good for a beginner?
It's the best bike in our fleet for someone new to Royal Enfields — lightest, lowest, easiest to manage at walking pace. You still need a geared-motorcycle licence.
Can two people ride it comfortably?
For short distances around Rishikesh, yes. The pillion seat is small and the suspension is firm, so a full day two-up isn't its strength.
What mileage does it give in the hills?
Around 33–35 kmpl in hill riding, a little more on flat highway. Roughly 430 km from a full tank.
Can I take the Hunter to Kedarnath?
Legally yes — the papers cover all of Uttarakhand. Practically we'd steer you to a Himalayan. The ground clearance and suspension are the problem, not the engine.
Is it available today?
Often. Message us and we'll tell you what's in the yard right now.
