The Bike People Mean When They Say “Bullet”

This is the shape. Round headlight, teardrop tank, hand-painted pinstripe, the exhaust note that carries three streets. When someone pictures themselves riding through the Himalaya, this is almost always the bike in the picture, and it is by a wide margin the most-photographed motorcycle we own.

The current Classic 350 runs the J-series platform, which matters more than it sounds: the old bike vibrated in a way that made a hundred kilometres feel like two hundred, and this one doesn’t. It’s still deliberate and unhurried — 195 kg, torque low down, happiest between 60 and 80 km/h. That’s the right speed for these roads anyway.

What It’s Good At

Sealed mountain roads. The Devprayag run, the Tehri lake road, Mussoorie and Dhanaulti, the highway to Srinagar Garhwal. Long steady curves at moderate speed with the engine thumping under you — the Classic is genuinely lovely at this and it’s most of what Uttarakhand highway riding is.

Being photographed. We say this without irony because it’s a real reason people rent it. Chrome against a river gorge photographs well and you will take more pictures of this bike than any other in the fleet.

Pre-wedding and film shoots. Our most-requested bike for them, by a distance. Ask about half-day and shoot-day rates.

Cruising two-up. The saddle and the pillion seat are both better than the Hunter’s, and the extra weight settles the bike on the highway.

What It Isn’t

It is not an adventure bike, and 170 mm of ground clearance with road-biased suspension means the rough sections of the Chardham roads will be work. It’s heavy to pick up if it goes over, heavy to paddle backwards out of a bad parking spot, and heavy on a loose gravel switchback.

Going to Kedarnath, Chopta, Badrinath or Auli? Take a Himalayan 411. Plenty of people do those routes on a Classic and arrive fine — but they arrive more tired and they concentrate harder for three days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Classic 350 hard to ride if I'm new to it?
Not hard, but heavy. It takes a few kilometres to trust the weight at low speed. If it's your first Royal Enfield and you'll be in Rishikesh traffic, the Hunter is easier.
Does it still vibrate like the old Bullet?
No. The J-series platform is a different bike in that respect. There's character, not fatigue.
Can I take a Classic 350 to Kedarnath?
Legally, yes. Practically, a Himalayan will be much less work on the rough stretches. Your call — we'll give you the honest version on the phone.
What mileage does it give?
32–36 kmpl in hill riding. Around 420 km per tank.
Can I rent it just for a photo shoot?
Yes. Message us for half-day and shoot-day arrangements.
Do you have the Classic 350 in a specific colour?
Tell us which and we'll say honestly what's in the yard.
