The Most Fun Bike in the Fleet on Good Tarmac

The Guerrilla takes the Himalayan 450’s Sherpa engine — 40 bhp, liquid-cooled, six-speed — and puts it in a shorter, lighter, lower roadster with 17-inch wheels and road rubber. The result is the bike we reach for on a day off.

Uttarakhand has some genuinely superb sealed roads. The run down the Ganga to Devprayag, the road around Tehri lake, the climb through Kanatal to Dhanaulti, the Mussoorie switchbacks. On those, the Guerrilla is quicker, sharper and more satisfying than anything else we own, and it’s ₹200 a day cheaper than the Himalayan 450.

At 780 mm it also has the lowest seat in the Royal Enfield range, which makes 40 bhp far less intimidating than it sounds.

Take It Here

Devprayag day ride. 70 km each way of fast sweeping highway above the river. This is the Guerrilla’s road.

Tehri lake loop. Smooth, empty tarmac around the reservoir with the water below you the whole way.

Mussoorie, Kanatal and Dhanaulti. Tight switchbacks, good surface, cool air.

Rishikesh to Chamba and back. A proper day out on sealed road.

Don’t Take It Here

169 mm of clearance, 17-inch road wheels and short suspension travel mean the Guerrilla is the wrong tool for the broken stuff. Kedarnath, Chopta, Badrinath, Auli, anything past a landslide clearance — take a Himalayan.

The 11-litre tank is the other constraint. Around 330 km of range is plenty for day rides from Rishikesh; it’s tight on the Chardham roads where pumps are far apart and sometimes dry.

Rule of thumb: if the road is sealed and you want to enjoy it, Guerrilla. If the road is a question mark, Himalayan 411 or 450.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 40 bhp too much for a first big bike?
The power is delivered smoothly and the seat is the lowest in the range, so it's more manageable than the number suggests. If you're genuinely new to motorcycles, start with the Hunter 350.
Can I take the Guerrilla to Kedarnath?
You can, and we'd rather you didn't. The last 80 km would be uncomfortable and the range is tight. Take a Himalayan.
What's the real-world range?
Around 330 km from the 11-litre tank. Fine for day rides from Rishikesh; plan fuel stops carefully anywhere else.
Is it comfortable two-up?
For a couple of hours, yes. It's a roadster — the pillion accommodation is not its priority.
How does it compare to the Hunter 350?
Twice the power, better brakes, better suspension, six gears, and considerably faster. Also ₹600 a day more and much less forgiving of a mistake.
