Rishikesh in Three Days, With a Bike

By Himanshu, who's ridden these roads since 2015 · Last updated August 2026

Most three-day Rishikesh itineraries assume you’re walking and taking autos, which means you see the two bridges, one café and a yoga class.

With a bike you can do all of that plus two sunrise points, a forest temple road and a night in the mountains. Here’s how we’d spend it.

Day 1 — Arrive, Settle, Short Ride

Morning: collect the bike. If you’re arriving by train or bus, we’ll meet you — no auto to Rishikesh needed. Handover takes ten minutes if you’ve sent your documents ahead.

Afternoon: ride to Narendra Nagar — 16 km, fifteen minutes of switchbacks, the whole valley below you. It’s the shortest proper climb from town and it’s how you find out what the bike does before committing to anything longer.

Then down to Neer Garh Waterfall or the Shivpuri café strip for the afternoon.

Evening: park at Ram Jhula and walk to Parmarth Niketan for the Ganga aarti at sunset. Get there early; it fills.

Day 2 — Sunrise, Temple Road, River

4:30 AM: Kunjapuri for sunrise. 35 km, an hour, 300 steps, and the range lighting up one peak at a time. Dress far warmer than the previous evening suggests.

Breakfast at the top, or at a Tapovan café on the way back.

Mid-morning: cross the valley and ride up to Neelkanth Mahadev — 32 km, thirty-plus hairpins, forest the whole way. Take the Ram Jhula forest road up.

Afternoon: back in town. Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutia) if you want the murals, Vashishta Gufa if you want the quiet, or a rafting run from Shivpuri if you want the river.

Evening: Laxman Jhula, the market, and an early night.

Day 3 — Go North

The point of having a bike. Two options depending on appetite.

The long day: Devprayag and back — 140 km round trip on the best road in the region, with the Ganga’s actual beginning at the far end. Leave by 7, back by 4.

The overnight (if you can stretch to a fourth morning): ride to Chopta — 165 km — sleep in a dhaba room on the meadow, walk to Tungnath at dawn. It’s the best 24 hours available within reach of Rishikesh and almost nobody on a three-day trip does it.

If You Only Have Two Days

Cut day 1. Collect the bike on arrival, do the Kunjapuri–Neelkanth double on morning one, and Devprayag on day two.
